Community Corrections is a system of local boards and programs that provide community placement and supervision as a cost-effective alternative to prison for individuals on parole or transitioning from prison.  Each person admitted to community corrections must meet established criteria to be approved by an appointed board of local officials and citizens.  Each of Colorado's 22 judicial districts have a board with contract with programs to provide rehabilitative services to their clients and to closely supervise and monitor their activities.  Boards also undertake related duties including auditing of program performance and client outcomes.

Community Corrections Boards and programs were established by legislation and are accountable to the Colorado Legislature through the Division of Criminal Justice, Department of Public Safety. Public safety, rehabilitation of offenders and reduction of recidivism are primary goals of the community corrrections system.  Community Corrections placement costs significantly less than incarceration while assuring public safety and preparing individuals for a crime-free lifestyle.

What is CACCB?

The Colorado Association of Community Corrections Boards is an organization that serves and represents board members from all of Colorado's community Corrections boards.  The purpose of CACCB is to provide ongoing education and training to board members to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the community corrections system.  Members of the organization also interact with elected officials and the public to provide education and to promote the efficacy of community corrections.

The CACCB, was founded in 1990 as a 401 (c) (6), as a voluntary, dues-supported, non-profit association of all community corrections boards in the State.  Essentially, all board members are members of CACCB.

Leaders from related agencies and groups, including the Division of Criminal Justice, the Department of Corrections, the Parole Board, the Judicial Department, and the Colorado Community Corrections Coalition, attend the quarterly meetings to report on metters if importance and relevance to CACCB members.  The Executive Committee and other members interact with elected officials and the public to provide education and to promote the efficacy of community corrections.  Members also often participate in local and statewide criminal justice planning and policy groups.
